John Ford

Citation :

À un journaliste qui lui demandait un jour quels étaient, selon lui, les cinéastes les plus importants, Orson Welles répondit : « Les vieux maîtres, c’est-à-dire John Ford, John Ford et John Ford. » C’est que John Ford est le plus moderne des classiques, le début et la fin de tout, l’homme qui a inventé le western et peut-être engendré le cinéma lui-même.

Il n’y a rien à rectifier de cette introduction (celle du livret du premier coffret édité sur John Ford par Opening), sinon à préciser que John Ford (né en 1894 et mort en 1973) a réalisé plus de 130 films et que, sur les 59 films de ses débuts il n’en reste que 10.
